🐾Griffin's 5th Graders are officially Grizzly Grill All-Stars! 🌟
These helpful students weren't afraid to get their hands dirty, assisting our kitchen staff with a massive lunch prep! They tackled everything from making grilled cheese and Sunbutter & Jam sandwiches to assembling fruit parfaits and prepping the famous Bison Chili. We even had a few volunteers jump in to try their hand at washing dishes! Future chefs in the making! 🧑🍳

Yesterday, Griffin’s 7th and 8th grade band students had the unique opportunity to learn from Mr. Henry Nordhorn, a professional horn player, graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and member of the Spokane Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Nordhorn performed excerpts from a Mozart horn concerto and shared insights into his practice and performance routines, as well as his journey as a professional musician. His visit was both inspiring and educational for our young musicians, offering a glimpse into the dedication and artistry required to perform at the highest level.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia (SOGO) for sponsoring this special event. Mr. Nordhorn will be performing with SOGO’s Conservatory Orchestra on November 2.
If you and your student are interested in attending, please see Mrs. Palmer for complimentary ticket vouchers. Click here for ticketing information.

Give it up for the Griffin Band! 🥁
What an incredible night! Our students joined the Capital High School Band on Friday for the football game, and the energy was electric. The combined sound was absolutely massive!
Way to go Grizzlies—you truly rocked the stadium! We are so proud of the talent and teamwork on display.

It was a fascinating day of mock trials and open Q&A. This hands-on experience gave students a firsthand look at the court system and the important role of the judicial process. ⚖️

We appreciate your help in ensuring we can keep our gates open for the community! 🐾

We’re thrilled to welcome the Pacific Science Center’s Science on Wheels to Griffin today! Our morning kicked off with an exciting assembly, and students are diving into hands-on stations all about Engineering throughout the day.
A huge thank-you to the Griffin School Foundation for making this experience possible, and to our amazing 5th-grade teacher Mrs. Potkonjak for applying for the grant and bringing it all together!

This day honors and remembers the Indigenous children who were forced into boarding schools that sought to erase their cultures and identities.
While this observance originated in Canada, it has spread to the United States to raise awareness of the lasting impacts of these institutions and to support reconciliation efforts for Native American and Alaska Native communities.
Wearing orange is a symbolic act of solidarity with survivors and a commitment to learning about and advocating for the rights of Indigenous peoples.

A big shout out to Landon Hufana and Tucker DeLong for their work as Recess Mentors. Daily, they spend part of their day out on the playground helping engage our elementary students in healthy play. They serve as amazing role models!
A huge congratulations to Dr. Ashley McCabe-Herron, teacher of 7th and 8th grade English at Griffin, who recently earned her doctorate degree. What an accomplishment!
The Board also recognized Fiscal Director Kim Ferra for her hard work and commitment over the years in managing Griffin's finances. School finance is complex and the Board is grateful for her service to our community.

Through ASB, student gain real-world skills in leadership, organization, and collaboration. They plan school events, make decisions about how to use ASB resources, and learn to listen to and advocate for diverse student voices.
A big thank you to Mrs. Anneka Brown, our librarian and ASB advisor, for guiding this work. I had the chance to stop by their meeting today as they prepped for elections next week--and even convinced them to pause for a quick photo.
I can't wait to see what our ASB leaders dream up for Griffin this year. Go Grizzlies!!!
